I was just running my daily 3 miles when the most brilliant idea struck me—-See, I’m about to get my MBA (top five school, thank you very much!!) and the big question in my mind is whether or not I should break away from real estate finance. It would be fairly painless for me to slip into something new after the MBA, but there are areas of real estate finance that I enjoy and it would be a shame to lose all of that intellectual capital.

The decision to leave/stay with real estate finance would be simple if I could test “my big idea.” I’ve been nursing this idea in my head, doing research every once in awhile and talking to a few people about it. I have no idea if it’s realistically viable. The only way to find out if this idea is worth anything is to develop it and then go public with the information. I will use my blog to do this, so expect the following posts:

-The Pitch: Transnational Mortgage

-Market Research: Who would use this product?

-Competitive Research: Is there anything like this out there already?

-Business Strategy: How would the product work? What would it cost to launch it?

-Risks and Mitigants: What can go wrong and what can be done to prevent that from happening?

-Exit Strategy: Plan for a worst Case Scenario

-Growth Strategy: What do you do to grow from the start-up phase to a full-scale model with economies of scale?
I have an entire summer before school starts…lets see how far I get.
